Some Hospital Employees Dismissed, Suspended After Refusing Mandatory Flu Shots
Despite resistance from some employees, more state hospitals this year are making flu shots mandatory for all workers, and some have even suspended or dismissed a handful who have not complied. This year, 19 of the 29 acute care hospitals in the state require that all employees get flu vaccinations. It's a sharp increase from last year, when there were only five. State health officials did not name the hospitals. There has been dissent from some employees.

New Study: Long-Term Unemployment Viewed By Hiring Companies As Worse Than A Criminal Record
A survey released today shows that people who have criminal records but are holding down a job have an easier time impressing hiring managers than do people who have been out of work for two years or more. The study is by Bullhorn, a Boston maker of recruiting software. The company ran an anonymous survey between August 23-28 of 1,500 staffing recruiters, corporate recruiters and hiring managers who use Bullhorn’s products.

Two departments closely tied and certainly affected by the process and output of its "sister" department are the payroll and human resources departments. Employees often do not understand the difference between payroll and human resources so they include both departments on their inquiries and concerns. A brief background of each case will be presented along with the outcome and discussion of the specific implications on the administration within the Human Resources function. Focus will be on federal court findings, although specific state findings that are relevant to HR, setting precedence for future findings, will be covered.

  • Which U.S. Supreme court rulings affect human resources and what you should be doing to protect your company.
  • Which state case rulings are setting precedence for future rulings that might affect your business.
  • Which cases will be ruled upon in early 2012, so employers and HR departments can be vigilant in following cases specific to their business practices.
